The distribution of biota from some geothermally influenced standing waters in the Taupō Volcanic Zone

This report discusses the occurrence and spatial dynamics of phytoplankton, zooplankton and macroinvertebrates from standing water bodies in the Taupo Volcanic Zone, a project jointly funded by Waikato Regional Council and NIWA.

The aims of this report are to:

• describe the phytoplankton, zooplankton and macroinvertebrate communities in a variety of standing water geothermal habitats;
• measure invertebrate community changes along geothermal stress gradients, and;
• examine the significant habitat and environmental factors influencing the diversity and distribution of aquatic geothermal invertebrate communities.
