We contract and provide passengers services in and around Hamilton, and have regional connections in Cambridge, Huntly, Morrinsville, Raglan, Te Awamutu, Taumarunui, Te Kūiti, South Waikato, Taupō, Thames, Pōkeno, Tuakau and Pukekohe.

The interregional passenger rail service, Te Huia, connects Waikato and Auckland and is operating as a trial until the end of the 2026 financial year, with incremental improvements to its services planned from 2027/28

The Regional Transport Committee comprises elected members from the region's territorial authorities, Waikato Regional Council, and officials from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi NZ, KiwiRail and CCS Disability Action (Waikato). The committee is responsible for:

• preparing the Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP) for approval by the regional council
• providing the regional council with advice and assistance it may request in relation to its transport responsibilities
• undertaking monitoring to assess progress on implementing the RLTP
• preparing and approving the Regional Road Safety Strategy
• advocating for transport investment in the region
• working collaboratively with local government and stakeholders across the region to prioritise and address transport issues
• preparing the Regional Speed Management Plan
• preparing the Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) for approval by the regional council.

We’re also collaborating with other councils on the development of the Hamilton-Waikato Metro Spatial Plan, which supports the establishment of a rapid and frequent public transport network shaped around where and how our communities will grow. 

We partner with iwi Māori to ensure public transport planning and services reflect Māori values, aspirations, and needs. An example of this collaboration is Future Proof, a partnership focused on managing growth in the Waikato sub-region to achieve the best outcomes for our communities.
